Introducing MSP360 MCP Server for Backup Management with Claude and ChatGPT

We’re excited to announce the MSP360 MCP Server. It connects your MSP360 Managed Backup account to Claude and ChatGPT, so you can check backup health, build reports, investigate failures, and configure client environments by describing in natural language what you need.

The Management Console shows you everything, as long as you know where to look. A question like “Which clients have computers that haven’t backed up in two weeks?” usually means opening several screens, setting filters, and assembling the answer yourself. Across dozens of clients, that navigation adds up to a real part of the working day.

With MSP360’s MCP Server, you ask the question and get the list in seconds, no screens to open, no filters to set.

What You Can Do with the MSP360 MCP Server

Run the Morning Check in One Prompt

“Which backup plans are failing, have warnings, or are overdue right now? Group them by company and give me the reason for each.”

You get the full picture across every client in one answer.

Get the Report You Need When You Need It

Reports usually come in fixed formats. Here, you define the scope as you ask:

  • Storage against limits – usage per company, flagged at any threshold you choose.
  • Agent hygiene – computers waiting for authorization or running outdated agents, grouped by company.
  • Client reviews – backup issues for the clients and time period you pick, broken down by computer.

Every report stays open for follow-ups. Narrow it to one client, change the time window, or ask which of those computers also failed last week – without rebuilding a filter or starting a new report.

Investigate and Fix a Problem Before It Becomes a Ticket

Ask why a specific backup failed, and you get a plain-language explanation, the likely cause, and the steps to fix it. The answer also tells you where the problem sits: credentials, the client’s network, storage, or the MSP360 side.

“Why did last night’s backup on WKS-ACCT-04 fail, how do I fix it, and is the cause on the client’s side or MSP360’s?”

That distinction decides your next move: call the client, fix a destination, or contact support, and you get it before anyone opens a ticket.

Onboard a Client in a Single Request

Onboarding is a chain of small steps: authorize the computers, assign licenses, create a backup plan, set the schedule. Each one sits on a different screen. The MCP Server takes the whole chain in one request:

“Authorize the 3 pending computers for Meridian Dental, assign them a license, and create a daily file backup of C:\Data at 22:00 to their Wasabi destination.”

The same works for setting up the client itself. Create the company, cap its storage at 500 GB, and add an administrator for the client’s IT lead with access to that company only – able to manage backups, but not billing.

How do I connect MSP360 MCP Server?

Add the MSP360 MCP Server to Claude or ChatGPT as a custom connector and sign in with your MSP360 Managed Backup account. From there, Claude or ChatGPT turns each request into calls to the MCP Server, and the server runs them as standard MSP360 API operations. It reads data and it makes changes, within what your account is allowed to do.

Your Account, Your Permissions

The MCP Server doesn’t bring a new access model. You sign in with an existing MSP360 account (provider or administrator) and Claude or Chat GPT can do exactly what that account can do in the console. Nothing more.

Sign-in happens on the Management Console page, not in the chat, so your credentials stay with MSP360. The account you choose sets the limits: if you only need one client’s data, connect with an administrator account limited to that company.

You stay in control of what happens next:

  • Confirmation before changes. Both Claude and ChatGPT let you require approval before any action runs, so nothing changes without your sign-off.
  • Time-limited access. In Claude, authorization renews for up to 12 hours of active use, then you sign in again. Revoke it at any time, and Claude is disconnected immediately.
  • IP allowlisting still applies. If your organization uses it, the MCP Server respects it.

AI output can be wrong, so review results before you act on them, especially before approving changes. The Management Console remains the place for visual oversight, detailed configuration, and anything the MCP Server doesn’t cover yet.

Who MSP360 MCP Server Is Built For

Existing Managed Backup customers benefit first. Connect your account, and your clients, computers, and backup history are already there. There’s nothing to buy on either side: you don’t need a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan. Claude’s free plan includes one custom connector – enough for Managed Backup – and ChatGPT’s free plan supports custom MCP servers too.

Small teams and solo MSPs, where one technician handles monitoring, onboarding, and support, get the most time back. Every task that used to take several screens now takes one request.

New to MSP360? Start a Managed Backup trial and use the MCP Server alongside the console from day one.

Availability

MSP360 MCP Server is available to all  MSP backup Software users. It works with Claude (desktop and mobile apps) and ChatGPT.

To get started, follow the setup guide for Claude or ChatGPT, then try the prompt examples to see what it can do.
