Safety Tips for MSPs and IT Teams
Help protect your organization and customers by following these practices:
  • Educate end users about masqueraded software — a scammer may ask them to install what looks like a familiar tool but is in fact a remote access client.
  • Monitor software downloads and installations on managed endpoints for new or unexpected applications outside your approved list.
  • Run regular software inventory audits to detect unauthorized remote access tools or unfamiliar applications on managed devices.
  • Use strong authentication and restrict access to authorized personnel only.
  • Regularly review accounts, endpoints, and remote access permissions.
  • Investigate unexpected device registrations or unusual connection patterns.
  • Train staff to recognize social engineering and impersonation attempts.
  • Remove access promptly when users, technicians, or devices no longer need it.
Safety Tips for End Users
Remote access scams often rely on urgency, impersonation, and pressure.
  • Only download software from official sources like the vendor's website. Never install software from links sent via email, pop-ups, or unsolicited calls.
  • Verify the digital certificate before installing anything. Check the file's Properties → Digital Signatures and confirm the publisher matches the software vendor you intended.
  • Do not allow remote access to anyone you do not know or trust.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited calls claiming to be from support, billing, or security teams.
  • Never share credentials or approve access because of pressure or threats.
  • Disconnect the session immediately if something feels suspicious.
  • Report the incident to the software vendor and local authorities if you believe you were targeted.
