{"id":134,"date":"2016-11-17T18:47:00","date_gmt":"2016-11-17T14:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yohoho.msp360.com\/?p=134"},"modified":"2021-01-26T14:25:50","modified_gmt":"2021-01-26T10:25:50","slug":"amazon-s3-multi-part-upload","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.msp360.com\/resources\/blog\/amazon-s3-multi-part-upload\/","title":{"rendered":"Support for Amazon S3 Multipart Upload in MSP360 Explorer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MSP360 Explorer for Amazon S3 supports the <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.amazonwebservices.com\/connect\/ann.jspa?annID=823\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Multipart Upload<\/a> feature of Amazon S3 that allows you to break large files into smaller parts (chunks) and upload them in any sequence.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>With Multipart Upload you can:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make data upload <b>more reliable<\/b>, we need to re-upload only failed chunks, not the whole file.<\/li>\n<li>Make data upload <b>faster<\/b> by breaking down the files into chunks we can upload in multiple threads efficiently utilizing available network bandwidth<\/li>\n<li>Pause and resume uploads.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"steps\">\n<p>To turn on Multipart Upload go to the corresponding tab in the <strong>Tools | Options<\/strong> menu: <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15065 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.msp360.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/s3-multipart-upload.png\" alt=\"s3-multipart-upload\" width=\"519\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.msp360.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/s3-multipart-upload.png 524w, https:\/\/www.msp360.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/s3-multipart-upload-228x300.png 228w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 519px) 100vw, 519px\" \/>Everything else is happening transparently.\u00a0 The file is broken down and sent to S3 as a number of parts. Once all parts arrive the file becomes available.<\/p>\n<p>You will also have an option to <b>Pause<\/b> and <b>Resume<\/b>large uploads.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"image003\" src=\"https:\/\/www.msp360.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/image003_thumbB1.png\" alt=\"image003\" width=\"635\" height=\"99\" border=\"0\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"image005\" src=\"https:\/\/www.msp360.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/image005_thumbB11.png\" alt=\"image005\" width=\"637\" height=\"110\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Special note for our existing users, who use <b>MSP360 Explorer chunking<\/b>: with the addition of native Multipart Upload we are deprecating MSP360 Explorer Chunking mechanism.\u00a0 It is going to be supported for backward compatibility so that you can retrieve the files from S3 that have been split using MSP360 Explorer chunking.
